Jewish Heritage Month...Looking Forward to Next Year!Posted on May 27, 2013 9:14am
Although this year's Jewish Heritage Month is winding down, it is not too late to participate in the final few events around the city of Toronto. For example, on Tuesday May 30th Elisha Muskat will be speaking at the Wolfond Centre on the University of Toronto campus. Sponsored by Genesis, the UJA Federation’s Centre for Jewish Innovation, this is sure to be an engaging and informative program. Elisha Muskat is the Executive Director of Ashoka Canada, the Canadian arm of the world’s leading association of social entrepreneurs. Please click here for more information.
What a wonderful month it has been celebrating Jewish Ontarians! From the travelling photographic exhibits to the various offerings held at Baycrest to walking tours of Kensington Market to bearing witness to the stories of Shoah survivors, it has never been so apparent that Jewish life in Ontario has been – and continues to be – thriving and exciting. Please click here for a list of noble Ontarians of Jewish Heritage. There you will find many inspiring individuals who have helped shape the landscape of this province. To highlight but one person, let us meet Rabbi Bernard Baskin. Rabbi of Temple Anshe Sholom of Hamilton for 40 years, Rabbi Baskin has been honoured on many occasions for his exemplary service to Hamilton and Ontario. His teachings have moved many of us to action and to a greater Jewish sense of self.
Let us travel on this road of life together, ever reaching our greatest potential as men and women, as Jews, and as the people of Israel. And let us strive to heed the words by Rabbi Baskin:
“Let us act as people about to embark on a perilous enterprise might link arms on setting forth – or as a child about to enter a dark chamber might reach out for his mother’s hand.”
